Why visit:

The Freshfields Village Farmers Market is tiny. It only has about 15-20 vendors selling products at any one time. However, we love how this market focuses purely on local businesses.

The vendors do change from year to year. However, you’ll likely find plenty of in-season produce, fresh pasta, honey, nuts, oils, salts, and more. All of these products are grown or crafted by some of the best producers around.

Of course, the market is also held on Kiawah Island, which is a beautiful place. So, once you are done sampling the delights at the market, you can explore the rest of Freshfields Village or Kiawah Island. It’ll be worth the trip!

From April to September, it runs from the late afternoon to early evening. Around Christmas time, there may also be a bonus market, but you’ll need to keep an eye on social media for that.

Mount Pleasant Farmers Market is always packed to the brim with fresh produce grown in North Carolina and beyond. The market always sticks to seasonal products; they usually post a good guide about what to expect before you arrive.

While there is a lot to buy at Mount Pleasant Farmers Market. Some of our favorite products are the prepared meals.

They always have a good number of vendors there, and there have been many Tuesdays where we have decided to swing by this market to pick up some dinner.

Wednesday Farmers Markets in Charleston

3. Western Ashley Farmer’s Market

Where: 55 Sycamore Ave, Charleston, SC 29407 (in Ackerman Park)

When: 3 pm to 7 pm, Wednesdays (Weekly)

Why visit:

We do love ourselves a good weekday farmer’s market. We love them even more when we don’t have to crawl out of bed early to grab the best produce or take off a day at work.

Western Ashley Farmer’s Market allows us to do that. It runs from 3 pm to 7 pm every Wednesday, meaning you can just run by after work and grab yourself some fresh produce.

The Western Ashley Farmer’s Market relies heavily on allowing real farmers to sell their goods here. Almost everything you will find on sale will be fresh produce (including fruits, vegetables, and dairy).

They also try to focus on farmers within easy reach of Charleston. As a result, almost everything that you can buy here is incredibly fresh. We’ve certainly whipped ourselves up a good meal or two from the Western Ashley Farmer’s Market wares.

If you are heading to this farmer’s market (and we suggest you do), we recommend that you look at their Facebook page. They’ll let you know which produce is in season; thus, you’ll know what to expect!

Thursday Farmers Markets in Charleston

4. North Charleston Farmers Market

Where: Exchange Park, 5025 Lackawanna Blvd

When: 3 pm to 7 pm, Thursday (May to October)

Why visit:

The North Charleston Farmer’s Market is one of the few Charleston farm markets that runs for only a fraction of the year, although thankfully during the prime season for fresh fruit and vegetables.

This is a farmer’s market on the smaller side of things. This is because the market has not been designed to attract tourists or hordes and hordes of browsers.

Instead, it is a market that exists to help people who live in the area purchase better quality foods at low prices. So, most people you find wandering around this market will be locals.

The market has a huge focus on locally sourced foods, with a few arts & crafts too. Each week, they bring in a different food truck to let you taste something a bit different!

5. Moncks Corner Farmers Market

Where: 418 E Main St, Moncks Corner, SC 29461 (Inside the Moncks Corner Recreation Center)

When: 3 pm to 7 pm, Thursdays (April to November)

Why visit:

Established in 2015, this may be one of the oldest continually-running Charleston farmer’s markets. Every year, without fail, the Moncks Corner Farmers Market returns and gives the local community access to some incredibly fresh food.

The market is quite small, so don’t expect hundreds and hundreds of vendors. You can just hope for some good quality food. Our favorite thing about this market is that each month has a unique event to enjoy.

For example, Blueberry Month or Bring Your Mom to the Market Month. When this happens, you may see a slight vendor shift, offering a unique experience.

Friday Farmers Markets in Charleston

6. Town Market on James Island

Where: 1122 Dills Bluff Rd. James Island, SC 29412 (James Island Town Hall)

When: 6 pm to 9 pm, First Friday of Every Month

Why visit:

The Town Market on James Island runs only once per month, but it is always an incredibly fun experience. As you can probably guess from the name, the market is so much more than just another one of the Charleston farm markets. It is an event, and all the locals descend upon it.

The food is just a small part of the market (although we find the best part). You’ll also enjoy live music, arts & crafts, and plenty of activities for the children.

Each month, there is the potential for a unique theme to the market. For example, in August 2023, they had an 80s theme.

It doesn’t really change the vendors too much, but it changes the aesthetic of the market and makes it a bit more fun. For example, that 80s theme market meant you had a ton of people walking around in 80s-style clothing.

7. Downtown Charleston Farmers Market

Where: 329 Meeting Street, Charleston

When: 8 am to 3 pm, Saturdays (Weekly)

Why visit:

The Downtown Charleston Farmers Market opens its doors every Saturday, boasting a real jovial feel. Not only will you have the opportunity to sample all sorts of culinary delights and buy some fantastic fresh produce, but you’ll also get to enjoy live music and maybe even pick up a few gifts.

We love the fact that this farmer’s market is an actual ‘event’ for the community. Obviously, you have the farmer’s market, but its popularity has meant that various other things also happen in the local area. For example, some weeks, you can engage in a healthy yoga session or a breezy walk.

Available vendors do vary from week to week, but the market always tries to focus on local businesses, particularly those that just love to talk about the products they are selling.

Feel free to ask any questions about any produce you are buying! You’ll learn exactly how fresh it is. This is perhaps our favorite Saturday farmers market in Charleston.

8. Summerville Farmers Market

Where: 200 S Main St, Summerville, SC 29483 (Historic Downtown Summerville)

When: 8 am to 1 pm, Saturdays (April to November)

Why visit:

If you want an alternative farmer’s market on a Saturday and are in Charleston between April and November, we highly recommend the Summerville Farmers Market. There can be up to 100 stalls here, and the place is constantly packed.

You’ll find a wealth of different vendors here. Obviously, you’ll have fresh produce, but you’ll also find countless vendors for bread, peanuts, kettle corn, and more.

You’ll even find photographers (if you want your picture snapped) and some of the best handmade soaps we’ve ever seen.

This market has strict restrictions on which businesses can sell their products here, meaning everybody you see selling their goods will be a smaller business, often local to Charleston.

9. Sea Island Farmers Market

Where: 2024 Academy Rd, Johns Island, SC 29455

When: 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, Saturdays (Weekly)

Why visit:

The Sea Island Farmer’s Market is a smaller farmers market in Charleston that tends to gravitate more toward prepared products and arts & crafts rather than fresh produce. However, that’s not to say that you won’t find plenty of fresh produce being sold too.

The Sea Island Farmer’s Market has around 40-50 vendors each week, with a few extra food trucks (the food trucks are always a huge deal here!), and you can pick up everything from fruits & veg to oils, fresh pasta, honey, pet food, and more.

10. Goose Creek Farmers & Artisans Market

Where: 519 N Goose Creek Blvd, Goose Creek, SC 29445

When: 9 am to 3 pm, Saturdays (Weekly)

Why visit:

We’ve another small market for you. But, as anybody who has ever been to a smaller farmer’s market can attest – they are sometimes the best.

The smaller markets often have the freshest produce (and far fewer people battling over that food) and a good community feel. Almost everything that you find sold at the Goose Creek Farmers and Artisans Market will have been produced in the local area.

The Artisans are the main focus of the market. So, expect many prepared foods such as honey, bread, and boiled peanuts. You won’t find anything more delicious than what is sold here!

Sunday Farmers Markets in Charleston

11. Holy City Farmer’s Market

Where: Holy City Brewing, 1021 Aragon Ave, North Charleston, SC 29405

When: 11 am to 3 pm, Sundays (Weekly)

Why visit:

The Holy City Farmer’s Market, behind Holy City Brewing, is a small Sunday farmers market in Charleston. They have around 30 vendors, but there are always some delightful offerings that you can sink your teeth into.

The Holy City Farmer’s Market is a blend of farmer’s produce as well as arts and crafts. You may also find more seasonal products depending on the time of year (e.g., closer to Christmas time).

One of our favorite things about this particular market is that the vendors rotate fairly often.

It is incredibly rare that you will find more than a few vendors showcasing their wares from week to week, so if you head to the Holy City Farmer’s Market on a Sunday, you could find all sorts of fantastic food available that you didn’t see the week prior.

12. Sunday Brunch Farmers Market

Where: 1977 Maybank Hwy, Charleston, SC 29412

When: 11 am to 3 pm, Sundays (Weekly)

Why visit:

The Sunday Brunch Farmer’s Market has a single mission – to try and act as a springboard for new, local businesses.

Sure, you have a couple more established businesses here, but the organizers’ main goal is to help newer vendors build a decent customer base so they can go out and start making huge amounts of cash away from the market.

This means you get a decent number of unique vendors at the Sunday Brunch Farmer’s Market. It also means this place has a far more unique feel than some of the other markets we’ve listed.

While there are some farm vendors at this market, the bulk of the vendors you find will sell pre-prepared foods and arts & crafts. For example, there is always a vendor selling meal kits (so you can go away and create a fantastic dish) or vendors selling candles and t-shirts.

The reason why we love this farmers market in Charleston is because of the community feel of it. It isn’t a place where tourists would head, and we love that. It is unique.
